Health Risk:
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in healthy individuals may include fever, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more severe conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
Actions to Take:
Check Your Pantry: If you have purchased Aleppo Tahini Sesame Paste, please verify the lot number, UPC, and expiration date to determine if your product is part of the recall.
Do Not Consume: If your product matches the recalled lot, do not consume it.
Dispose or Return: Safely dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

As of February 5, 2025, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The recall was initiated after routine sampling by the Ohio Department of Agriculture detected Salmonella in the finished product. Turkana Food Inc. has ceased production and distribution of the product and is working with the FDA to investigate the cause of the contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious health issues, especially in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.

Check Your Product: If you have purchased Jack & the Green Sprouts' Alfalfa Sprouts, please examine the packaging for the lot number and expiration date.
Identify the Recalled Product: The recall specifically involves 5-ounce packages with lot number 687 and an expiration date of January 29, 2025.
Dispose of the Product: If you possess the affected product, it is advised to discard it immediately to prevent any potential health risks.

As of now, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The company initiated the recall after routine testing by the State of Minnesota detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the expired product. Despite independent lab tests by Jack and the Green Sprouts yielding negative results prior to product release, the recall is being conducted out of an abundance of caution.
