Food Recall Notice - 2/12/25

Tri-Union Seafoods has issued a voluntary recall of specific canned tuna products due to a manufacturing defect in the "easy-open" pull tab lids. This defect may compromise the can's seal, potentially leading to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism—a rare but serious illness. While no illnesses have been reported, consumer safety is our top priority.

  • Distribution: Trader Joe’s stores in Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin

• Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil 7 oz

  • Distribution: Costco stores in Florida and Georgia

• Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil 5 oz

  • Distribution: Harris Teeter, Publix, H-E-B, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart, and independent retailers in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Texas

• Van Camp’s Chunk Light Tuna in Water 5 oz

  • Distribution: Walmart and independent retailers in Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Jersey

What You Should Do:

1. Check Your Pantry: Locate the canned tuna products in your possession and verify if they match the affected UPC codes, can codes, and "Best If Used By" dates listed above.

2. Do Not Consume: If you have any of the recalled products, do not consume them, even if they appear normal.

3. Dispose or Return: You can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of it properly.
